Russian group entry wins Student Design of the Year
 
Three Russian students from Tomsk State University of Architecture & Building have won the top prize of $5,000 in the Interior Motives Design Award 2005. Ivan Kouriatchi, Denis Voenkov and Alen Kharinkin received the overall trophy from Klaus Iffland, President of Intier Automotive Europe, premier sponsor of the awards.
 
The Interior Motives Design Awards ceremony was held at The King Kamehameha Club in Frankfurt on September 14 and was attended by the cream of the design community – leading designers, design managers and top executives from automakers, tier suppliers, independent designers and design studio personnel. This event has truly become the only “global design night of the year.”
 
Among the special invited guests were the distinguished judges panel: Olivier Boulay (General Manager, Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Center of Japan, DaimlerChrysler), Guy Burgoyne, (Chief Designer, Interior, Volvo Car Corporation), Bill Fluharty, (VP, Industrial Design and New Product Strategy - North America, Johnson Controls), Tony Hunter, (Assistant Chief Designer, Interior Design, Land Rover), Patrick le Quèment, (Senior VP, Corporate Design, Renault), Roberto Piatti, (Managing Director, Stile Bertone), Marek Reichman, (Director of Design, Aston Martin), Romulus Rost, (Head of Interior Design, Design Centre Europe GmbH), Rus Shafer (Director, Industrial Design, Intier Automotive) and Stéphane Schwarz (Design Director, Nissan Design Europe).
 
The eight award categories winners who received a trophy and US$500 are:
 
Best InnovationIvan Kouriatchi, Denis Voenkov and Alen Kharinkin, Tomsk State University of Architecture & Building, Russia; presented by David Shall, Managing Director of category sponsor Technicon Design.
 
Best Use of Technology Michal Latko, Akademia Sztuk Pieknych w Katowicach, Gdansk, Poland; presented by Romulus Rost, Head of Interior Design, Design Centre Europe GmbH and Wolfgang Mueller-Pietralla, Leader of Future Affairs, Volkswage AG of category sponsor Volkswagen AG.
 
Best Production Interior Tzu-Han Chou, Academy of Art University, San Francisco, USA; presented by Dennis van Stee, Director ofWorldwide Marketing of category sponsor Seton Company.
 
Best Conceptual Interior Ryan Campbell, Academy of Art University, San Francisco, USA; presented by Günther Wilmes, Key Account Manager, OEM of category sponsor Waeco International.
 
Best Lifestyle Interior Curic Kemal, Wuppertal University, Germany; presented by Angelo Bordogna, Director, Automotive Division of category sponsor Alcantara SpA.
 
Best Eco Design Concept Wei-Chieh (William) Tu, Pratt Institute, New York, USA; presented by Rus Shafer, Director, Industrial Design of premier sponsor Intier Automotive.
 
Best Production Exterior Jarno Sundell, Umeå Institute of Design, Sweden; presented by Abel Sampson, Publisher of Interior Motives magazine.
